DAY
8: Friday, May 9th |
|
|
I
woke up with no Mickey wake-up call this morning and walked up to
the lounge to pick up breakfast for Joe and I. It was after 9:00
and there wasn’t much of a selection left for breakfast. There
was also no easy way for getting the food back to our room. I
piled everything on top of one another and hoped it wouldn’t
spill! I made it back with everything intact and woke up Joe. We
ate out on the balcony and watched the animals. It was an awesome
way to start our day. I needed to go and pick up some gifts at
Downtown Disney and Joe said he would hang out at the resort, and
then meet me at Typhoon Lagoon in a few hours.

The
wait for the Downtown Disney bus was about 15 minutes, but the
ride took nearly 45 minutes! When I got off the bus, I realized
that there was no direct route back to Typhoon Lagoon. Since Port
Orleans and Old Key West were the closest I would go there and
switch for TL. I wanted to check out PO anyway!
I started out at the World of Disney and hoped to pick up
most of the souvenirs I wanted there.
I had made a mental list the last time we were here, so it
didn’t take too long to shop. I had everything sent back to the
AKL so I wouldn’t have to carry it or get a locker at TL. I made
stops at the home and Christmas stores and then headed back to the
bus stop. While waiting for the bus, I struck up a conversation
with a woman who was a DVC member at Old Key West. She said that I
should ask the bus driver if he would drop me at TL since it is on
the way back to OKW. I asked the driver and he said no problem. I
would be his first stop!! That was really cool! |

It
was nice getting to parks well after they opened and not having to
wait in line! I stopped at the changing room and put on my bathing
suit then went to meet Joe at, where else, the bar! He had just
arrived as well, so we ordered up a round of drinks. We took the
lazy river around to the shark reef, then rode a few of the other
water slides. We grabbed a snack and then hit a few more slides. I
really love the theming here. The paths are all covered in foliage
and it makes you feel like you are really trekking through the
jungle. Joe went on big slide a few times, while I took his
picture. Finally we made our way to the wave pool. This was
Joe’s favorite! He went way out to the big waves and I stayed at
about the 2 foot mark! We were both pretty water logged, so we
dried off and went back to the resort. |

| The
bus ride back to AKL was really long and Joe and I were the only
two on the bus. We walked through the gift shop on our way back to
the room and spotted a few things we would pick up for our house.
We showered and headed back down to grab a bus to Epcot. There was
a big group of people waiting for the Epcot bus. We waited about
15 minutes for one to show up, so they must have been waiting much
longer than that! |
| Mexico |
| We
started off at test track, but the line was 45 minutes and there
were no fast passes left. We had out PS in about an hour, so we
would have to skip it.
We took some time to check out the exhibits for the flower
and garden festival. I really liked how they had baskets of
flowers “floating” in parts of the lagoon. I’m not sure how
they did it, but it was really pretty. We had never done the ride
in Mexico and planned to do it before dinner. It was nice, a much
longer ride than I had expected. We checked in at the San Angel
Inn and then looked around at the marketplace. San Angel is my
favorite restaurant at Epcot and I really love the Mexican
pavilion. Our buzzer went off and the host took us to our seats.
We were right next to the river and could watch as the boats went
by. It was really romantic. This restaurant has a separate
vegetarian menu, which I really appreciated. The food, mood, and
our waiter were fabulous! After dinner we were both stuffed. We
had to be up early the next morning (Sunrise Safari!), so we went
back to the resort. |
| Mousekeeping
had been in our room for turndown service and My Pal Mickey was on
the lower bunk all ready for bed. He even had a few pieces of
chocolate! We sat out on the balcony and watched the animals for a
bit and then decided to head to the pool for a quick dip. It
didn’t seem quite as crowded tonight (I could put my arms out
without hitting anyone, but still couldn’t actually do any
swimming.) After we cooled off we went back upstairs to bed. I set
a wake-up call for 6 am!!! |
